Shower the People You Love...

Our friend Ginny was sweet enough to throw Richard and me a baby shower.

Everyone was welcome - family and friends, friends and family and family.

After some initial confusion about who the shower was actually for, the activities got underway.

It was a lovely day of eating, more eating, and opening gifts.

There were many utterances of "awwww!" and "cute!" when the gifts were opened.

Our baby will certainly be well-read [to]. And there are already some friends waiting for him to arrive.

Grace and Ellen were the most beautiful girls at the party, and kept asking where the baby was and would he wear a swimsuit for his shower.

We all sat around and tried to think up names for Baby Hsu. We got a really good list from everyone.

At the end of the day, everyone took home party favors that Ginny made.

Thanks to Ginny for a wonderful day.

Go for the Gold

Forget all the olympic coverage from Greece. No one did it better than Animalympics.

I was surprised at all the voice talent in the cartoon: Billy Crystal, Gilda Radner, Harry Shearer.

Some quotes I remember:
  • 4.5? Was that her score or the reading on the richter scale?

  • He's going to feel that in the morning!

  • I want you to go up for the face-off. After you take his face-off...

  • Characters I remember:
  • Rene Fromage running against and then with Kit Mambo - with you I could run forever!

  • Kurt Wuffner hot dog skier

  • Calamari Brothers Bobsled team

  • Sports reporter Keen Hacksaw and Barbra Warblers

  • Where else where you find a pigeon and lizard ice skating pair, a Bruce Lee karate penguin, or a Howard Cosell turkey named Rugs Turkell?

Copies aren't too hard to find, but are very expensive.

    Bring back my Home Movies!

I miss Home Movies. It is one of the few shows I really looked forward to each week. The story centered around 8 year old Brendan Small (the show's creator and writer). All of the characters had personality. There was Emo as a Bully, the weird Russian Kid Eugene, Paula Poundstone as the Mom, and Jonathan Katz as Melissa's Dad (who btw has MS!), H Jon Benjamin as Coach McGuirk. It was produced by Soup2Nuts and Tom Snyder Productions (which is apparently owned by Scholastic, who we like!) and appeared on Adult Swim. It is drawn in SquiggleVision style like the other great Tom Snyder shows.

    Bring it back!

    Goddammit, I hate the dentist.

Actually, I don't--he's a very pleasant man. His assistants, on the other hand, do the Devil's Work. Actually, that's not true either--they are only trying to encourage me to maintain healthy periodontal habits. "But I floss all the time!"

I am supposing I got off lucky: my procedure today wasn't nearly the medieval practice I figured. Still hurt like hell. Let this be a lesson to you all (but mostly Scott.)

Brush. Floss. Rinse with an antibacterial liquid of no particular brand.
