| To all the global Determans,
This missive comes from Dubuque, Iowa and says hello to all the Iowa Determans, especially those springing from the lineage of John and Marie Determan of Preston (Sugar Creek) Iowa. We in Dubuque are connected to the families in Clinton and the Quad Cities of Iowa.
I had no idea of the scope of our families' locations and influence. Most of us are northern German and love the cold weather (huh?)
Anybody interested in sharing local and family stories need only write. For now, be not deter-ed from greatness.

| Wow. I didn't know this many Determans had been released from prison :) Have y'all been reporting in to your parole-officers regularly? he he he. Smile. Most of the stuff has been expunged from our permanent records! But seriously, the major concentration of Determans in Minnesota traces back to a generation of 13 kids (circa 1930s birthdates) and a prior generation of 16, I think it was. Minnesotans familiar with the term "Stearns county syndrome." No joke, that's us. I was one of the kids that was "not known about" but found the clan near Y2K. Friendly group of people, that much I'll attest to. |

| I am going over to Germany for two weeks the end of September 2004 and will be researching my ancesters in the Hanover area. Specifically Bersenbruck and Osnabruck are towns where I have found that Rehkamps are living in.
My last known ancestor is Johann Rehkamp born on 2/22/1834 somewhere in Germany, and he emigrated to New York sometime before 1858, when my great grandfather, George Rehkamp was born.
Any help would be appreciated. |

| Hi! I found your homepage through a link on Carter McNamara's online course in nonprofit management, program design and evaluation. Your webpage on marketing was very insightful and easy to understand. I particularly got a lot of great ideas on positioning. Wasn't perfectly clear on difference between positioning "against" a competitor vs. positioning "away from" one, although I could sorta imagine it. And a belated congratulations on your October wedding! I toured through some of the photos, and I love the one with the cat sleeping with its head on a book! Thanks again for a great resource, and hope you'll add more! |

| This is your sisterinlaw from Minnesota. I finally bought a computer. I am still learning but get alot of help from one of my daughters Lisa. I work for a ammunitions company in Minnesota and will be retiring in 2007 along with my husband, your brother, Ivan. Then I plan to leave the state for something better. I am proud of my 2 daughters and my granddaughters. Their names are Katrina, age 8 and Samantha, age 4.5. They are beautiful children and are very intelligent. My daughter Diana lives in Webster, Wi.and the other lives in Center City, Mn. I would like a response from the family in Andover, Ma. Good site but I know that there are better pictures than that. How come when I wanted to see a picture of your first grandchild that you wouldn't show it to me. Got to go now as I have to dye easter eggs with Katrina. She also shows me how to use the computer. |

| I have diligently researched my family tree, but I must confess that when I reached back to 814 A.D. and found that Charlemagne was one of my ancestors, I gave up in disgust. As you probably know, he was appointed by the Pope as Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire which included most of what is now Western Europe. Having read how dysfunctional my ancestors were, I have no trouble determining why my family has problems. Although I have no difficulty with spelling, I can understand why some of you do. Charles the Great was a notoriously pathetic speller who in some of his writings blamed it on many things, most notably the lack of proper toilet training and the abandonment of phonetics by teachers in his early years.

| Pleae help me solve a mystery. I received a lovely pumpkin chessecake from Harry and Davids. The box came addressed to me. The note on the outside of the box said, "Happy Thanksgiving! from the Determans."
Well, I am embarassed to say I can't figure out who this is. I called Harry and Davids and they said all they could tell me was that it was from a Diane Determan in Chicago. I must be getting real old but I can't make a connection.
Please contact me if you can help. |

Her name is Katrina and both of us plan on keeping the Determan name because were proud of it. I hear that the third Determan great-grand child is on the way (congrats Jim and Natalie). All Determans be proud of your name because we are dwendeling breed. I Just thought it would be nice to see what my relatives look like again, say hello, and see if your still alive.
By the way let Tim know that the Vikings suck and the Bears rule. You can let Eddie know that to. Just because I live in Minnesota doesn't mean I have to root for a yuckey team like the vikings. At least Tim has some good sense when it comes to Nascar. We know Ward Burton Rules!!! Well I guess that's about it, just remember stand tall be proud and the rest will come naturally. June 21, 2002

And Natalie MacMaster was supposed to appear with them, but instead Richard Wood played and he was awesome! Too bad you weren't there (he he he);)! Hope to see you all soon! |

| After a diffucult lesson with a recalcitrant student, I am finding this site very enjoyable. I play bluegrass and folk style here in Kansas. Hardly a professional but Im having fun with it. We like to sit around the living and play. In my case with the fiddle we refer to it as tortureing the kitty. Also play guitar, mandolin, banjo, and the bones. Thank you for the entertaining site.---Tom |

| Just like everyone with the name "Determan" I was wondering if I could find anything about our name.
I can only say that the "Determan" name was first registered in Hannover Germany ± 1780.
Maybe someone can tell me more.......... |

I am really enjoying working on it and I really think you should offer your music/marketing talent to as many musicians as possible. | Was checking to see which websites might be available under my name and stumbled onto yours. Since there are only a few "Determan" family trees in the US, I thought we may be related. The Determans I've heard about through word of mouth are all located (or have roots) in western Minnesota (around Pipestone/Tyler/Lake Benton), eastern South Dakota and northern Iowa. Whether we are related or not, am enjoying your site. |

| Hi family!
I suppose I have to speak English in this gueatsbook. No problem, althogh I am Dutch and live in Amsterdam. Amazed to find other Determans on the web - outside of Holland or Germany! Mail me please and tell me more about you people. I am a art teacher and painter of landscapes.. or better "water scapes" I love sailing and paint the water from my 70-years old motor boat (there is a lot of Water in Holland as you migtht know, grin) What a drag to write all this on one line...! My homepage is unreadable for you people: Dutch. But it is a heltkip for Webmasters. |

| I just started fiddling and have not had any formal lessons. I was looking for something maby on the web. I don't know how to read music, but I have picked up what I know by ear. I realize that I'm very limited by this. That is why I am looking for something to help me advance. I like bluegrass music or old country. I'm not into Keltic music very much.
It's very hard to find what I'm looking for or what I think I'm looking for.
Thank you for taking the time to help others like me. |

| Thank you for providing such great information on music marketing.
I have a doctoral degree in Composition, and my main instrument is 5-string
banjo, which translates into "I work a lot of dead-end jobs where I endlessly
recite the question: 'How can I make a living doing the only thing I know &
love to do (writing, playing, recording music of all styles)?" Your efforts
are appreciated in more ways than one. My wife teaches string orchestra to
middle school kids, and we are currently arranging fiddle tunes for them to
play (she's a cello player). Thanks for the tunes. Your site was just
what I needed to give me some much needed inspiration to persevere
with my musical path. We're working on a CD that will be available around
the first of the year, which will include some original and traditional
bluegrass, including a Middle Eastern arrangement of "Salt Creek/Salt River"
that we perform live with our bellydancing friend, Belly Mae.
I'd be happy to send one your way. Lastly, we we're recently turned on
to Moxy Fruvous. We love their vocals and arrangements! Keep up the
good work, and thanks again!

| I love playful thoughts .. richard feynman is a wonderful guy.
anyway, i think i have an idea on the problem presented in the feynman lectures ..
although feynman claims that there is no angular momentum present in the systme to begin with, don't the electrons traveling in the solenod carry some angular momentum, thus ruling out this objection?
e-mail back i guess .. i'm still not good with the physics or math as to be able to calculate the exact forces and such.

| Wow... 5 correct and 3 wrong for my first attempt at Physics "Whose Head Is It". Must be Russ's influence from the 'old days's at SmartRoute Systems.
Alas... Russ has decided to leave us and join the high stress environment of Zoo Mass Amherst. So many mathematician biographies... so little time...
Good luck Russ... and go ahead an live on the edge... buy yourself a Koosh Ball.

| I learned today from this funky site that Jim has a common law wife. Which
makes me wonder, what laws is he now governed by? And what's the hang-up
for not making it an actual-law marriage? Fear of commitment? Aversion
to cultural insitutions? No free time in the calendar?
And where's the Ed section of this site? That would attract the visitors
in hordes!

Pierre

| Hi Determan family:
What fun, my first introduction to homepages. I don't have the
internet so i'll have to come to Nat & Jim's more often to play.
You may add my birthday to the list: Jan 30, 1970.
And if anyone wants to make me a homepage I'll fill you in on my
interests...need to think about it.
Hope everyone is well.
See you soon.
